How can I support adult survivors as a Provider or Professional?
Adult survivors need trained health providers who understand the complexity of healing from childhood sexual abuse. We believe no adult survivor should ever feel alone or be alone on their healing journey, yet it’s often difficult for survivors to find trained professionals who can support them.
90% of children are abused by someone they know, and up to 60% of those children are abused by a family member. This betrayal of trust from someone who should have been a safe person often impacts relationships for survivors in adulthood by making it difficult to recognize safe people or trust those closest to them.
For too long, society has silenced and ignored childhood sexual abuse and its impact on adults. It’s common that professionals don’t receive the training they need to provide care for this population. Working with a provider who is not properly trained can delay healing or cause additional harm for adult survivors.
You can be a safe professional to walk alongside an adult survivor during their healing journey.
Wings is here to equip everyone with the resources they need to become part of an eco-system that provides CSA Trauma-Informed practice. The Wings Survivors and Loved One’s Guide to Healing is a great place to start learning. We’re building a series of trainings so that providers like you can become part of a community of healing professionals.
Watch: Champions of Healing™ For Providers
Because culture hasn’t made it easy for adult survivors to find pathways to healing, it’s vital that professionals to whom they turn for help understand their experiences and needs. Unfortunately, many in the healing professions aren’t trained on how prevalent this trauma is in the lives of adults. This video is aimed at encouraging providers to learn more and become Champions of Healing™, too.
This course is designed to help loved ones, friends, and professionals understand CSA, its impacts on adult survivors, and how to respond with care and compassion. Our goal is to increase understanding and support for adult survivors while reducing instances where allies may turn away.
