Changing a culture takes all of us

Community support for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse is critical to making space in our world for survivors to heal. For too long, our culture has not been willing to acknowledge this issue and create this space. Meanwhile, the chances are high that you know someone who has experienced childhood sexual abuse, though they may not have shared that information with you.

You can be a gateway to survivors’ healing. And you can foster a healthier, safer world for all.

Indeed, childhood sexual abuse and its impact on adult survivors affects all of us, including our families, workplaces, neighborhoods, schools, and places of worship. We need allies like you to come alongside adult survivors to break down the walls of silence and stigma and foster healthy connections and safety for everyone.

Renowned trauma expert, Dr. Gabor Maté says, “Safety is not the absence of threat; it is the presence of connection.”

With your choice to be connected to this issue, we can build healthy communities that acknowledge childhood sexual abuse and provide the space and resources for adult survivors to speak about, heal from and thrive beyond this trauma. This also supports efforts to prevent this abuse in the first place.

There are ways you can get involved in supporting survivors, like learning how to respond to adult survivors with care and compassion, learning how to connect in safe ways, understanding common trauma symptoms, and using your voice to share what you know.
