Job Description
Position: Support Group Facilitator
Purpose: To serve as the facilitator of a support group for adult survivors
of incest and childhood sexual abuse, and to provide orientation to new
group members.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge and understanding of incest/sexual abuse issues.
- Thorough understanding of group dynamics and group process.
- Excellent therapeutic and personal boundaries and ethics.
- Ability to perform crisis intervention.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Attend WINGS group meetings weekly.
- Model appropriate communication and leadership skills.
- Urge all members to take responsibility for the group's health.
- Adhere to a consensus model, where every member has a say in the structure
of the group.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the individual needs of group
members.
- Direct the group back to the Handbook when necessary. Encourage members
to use it as their "guide" to healthy communication and growth.
- Limit self-disclosure to information that is of clear benefit to group
members.
- Have a clear reason before making any contribution or interjection
during the meeting.
- Address crises both within the group and individually while maintaining
appropriate boundaries.
- Direct members to the WINGS office for referrals to individual therapists
when necessary.
- Maintain contact with the Program Director regarding the status of
the group, including changes in meeting dates or times, cancelled meetings,
group size, and any other issues or questions regarding the group.
- Notify the WINGS office and all group members no less than 24 hours
in advance if group is cancelled, except in cases of sudden inclement
weather.
- Conduct orientation for new members monthly.
- Ensure that each group member signs in on the Group Report for each
week, using his/her handbook number.
- Complete all necessary paperwork (group reports, time sheets, orientation
paperwork).
- Collect group fees.
- Mail group report, timesheets and group fees to the WINGS office by
the 7th of the following month. Mail orientation paperwork the day after
the orientation is conducted.
- Participate in clinical supervision provided by WINGS.
- Participate in quarterly facilitator trainings at the WINGS office.

- Improve WINGS programming by providing ideas and feedback to WINGS
staff.
Training:
- To be provided by WINGS staff. Ongoing supervision provided by the
Program Director.
